How Gundamma is paying it forward
GUNDAMMA, KALABURAGI, KARNATAKA
On most days Gundamma’s house is teeming with women; all eager learners of how to sew. Gundamma has 3 machines on which she patiently teaches all her enthusiastic students.
But this hasn’t always been her story. Gundamma was married and had a daughter. But constant torturing and issues at her in-law’s home meant she had to move out and go back to living with her parents. But Gundamma didn’t want to dependent on her family members, so she approached a local NGO for some work. That’s when she got to know about the USHA Silai School Program and enrolled herself for the 7 days training. The rest they say is history.
Not only did Gundamma learn the skills of sewing and running a Silai School, she has trained over 70 women in doing the same.
Today, she’s admitted her daughter in a residential school in Sedam. She smiles and says ‘all this of this became possible because of the USHA Silai School.’
