Government Partners
Government partnerships are new pillars of Usha Silai School program model. Government agencies looking to work with
rural women on skilling and entrepreneurship, find a ready platform pan India through Silai Schools. Active
participation of government institutes in the skilling mission are encouraging public sector undertakings to come on
board and collectively work to make it successful. Usha has partnered with various government departments, agencies and
institutes in the past and are willing to collaborate with more such partners in the future as well.
Corporate Partners
Many corporates have benefitted by getting a platform through Usha Silai program to implement their CSR programs on
skill development and promoting women entrepreneurship. The model taps several components laid down under Schedule VII
of section 135 of the CSR Act, 2013 like, empowering women, vocation skill development among women, promoting gender
equality, enhancing vocational skills for employment etc. Thus, it becomes easier for corporates to meet their CSR
objectives by investing in a well established model.

in Dibrugarh of Assam and 8 Silai Schools in Aizawl, Kolasib districts of Mizoram are running in partnership
with NEEPCO. These Silai Schools have enabled the rural women to earn progressively each year and emerging
as empowered women in the area of intervention and inspiring hundreds of other girls and women for
self-employment.”
India to set up a “Training and Production center” for women living at a remote village of Bhor near Pune,
Maharashtra. The center provides training on sewing cloth bags, handbags, school uniforms, factory uniforms,
masks, etc. They have now started to collaborate with a label known as “Ohran”, for making hand pouches.
These opportunities have certainly opened new doors for the women to earn a dignified living for their
families.
of social work, University of Kashmir has been involved in education, research and extension activities. The
extension activities primarily address issues faced by the vulnerable sections of the society. With an aim
to empower women, it was in the year 2018 department of Social work University of Kashmir and USHA
international, New Delhi collaborated for opening of USHA Silai schools in various districts of Kashmir
valley. Presently department of Social work, University of Kashmir together with USHA have opened many Silai
Schools in various districts of Kashmir valley and one Training cum Production centre in Srinagar.
Beneficiaries trained are thriving in their intervention through regular job order work and training
learners of their community. Some of the trainees also prepared clothes for Usha Silai Label under the
guidance of designer Mr. Rohit Bal and the same was showcased in Lakme Fashion Week 2018-2019.
established by Galaxy Enterprise in Tura, Meghalaya for rural marginalized women working as daily wage labor
in agricultural field. Usha trained 30 beneficiaries on marketable products/garments. Post training,
beneficiaries have received the job order work of making nighties, petticoat etc. and they are being sold in
local market. The beneficiaries now have sustainable and alternate source of income in addition to
irregular/seasonal income from agriculture fields.
Foundation, the CSR wing of Dalmia Group for establishing 40 women entrepreneurs in USHA Silai School model
in Morigaon, 5 women in West Karbi Anglong District and 40 women in Hojai District of Assam. The women have
been excelling in their expertise and earning in incremental trends for their sustainable livelihood.
Meghalaya banned certain kind of plastic usage in the state. As an alternative Government of Meghalaya is
promoting the usage of cloth bag by consumers. Usha partnered with MSRLS, Government of Meghalaya for
training women on making cloth bag and setting up two production center one each at Betasing-South-West Garo
Hills and Umsining-Ri Bhoi. Post training, women beneficiaries are making cloth bags and addressing to the
local market need. To make it more sustainable Government is working towards creating backward and forward
linkages for women.
Balrampur Foundation-Balrampur Foundation,a social arm of Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd
partnered with Usha for sewing skill development of 105 marginalized women residing in and around its plant
in Gonda and Basti, Uttar Pradesh. Post attending rigorous Usha’s sewing training, these women have
established their Silai Schools and earning sustainable source of income from their intervention.
Bank of India (SIDBI) under its flagship initiative Mission Swavalamban, collaborated with Usha
International Ltd. (UIL) through Usha Social Services in 5 phases till now since May 2019 to reach out the
unserved, underserved, backward, calamity prone & aspirational districts of India by successfully
setting-up 3000 Usha Swavalamban Silai Schools covering 2909 villages, 253 blocks, 59 districts across 23
states/UTs (viz. UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, West
Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Goa, Puducherry, J&K, Ladakh & North-East (Arunachal
Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Tripura & Mizoram). UIL collaborated with SIDBI to fulfill
the objective of creating women led micro-enterprises (homepreneurs) within the rural landscape and enable
financial independence, economic enablement & enhanced social status. Till date in all 5 phases 3000
women have been skilled on sewing, stitching, embroidery, life skills and entrepreneurial capabilities under
the partnership. The 3000 homepreneurs states who were provided 9 days residential training by UIL have
opened their Usha SIDBI Swavalamban Silai Schools at their homes and are earning a sustainable
income.Further, we are in process / discussions for setting up 575 such more Swavalamban silai schools in
states of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab & Tamil
